Der Irrweg, "the wayward path," is the third world of MORANA's saga, the Germanic realm of the Grimm forests, where the cracked wheel's rupture spreads into a land of dark woods and where, alone in the whole ten-world story, some things lost do not come back. It is the world that turns the saga's promise of return on its head, once.
This is the country of the Brothers Grimm: the forest that swallows children, the witch in the gingerbread house, the wolf in the grandmother's bed, Frau Holle shaking snow from her feathers, the Erl-King riding at a child's shoulder, and the Wild Hunt streaming across a winter sky. German and wider Germanic folklore is a tradition of the threshold of the trees, where the ordered village ends and something older begins, and the safest path is never the one you take.
By the third world, the tear between the living and the dead that opened in the Slavic lands has reached the Germanic forests, and a new people meet the same Turning in their own myths. But this realm carries the saga's one deliberate inversion. Everywhere else in MORANA, the defeated return stronger from the Open Grave. Here, in the deep woods, some things planted in the dark are simply lost, not sent to Nav to rise again, but gone. It is the moment the story needed once, where the wheel does not turn, and the whole arc is darker for it.
Der Irrweg's signature idea is a bounded zone of true, permanent loss. Where the rest of the saga promises that death is the middle of the card and not the end, this world opens one opt-in path where that promise does not hold, raising the stakes of every commit for the players brave enough to walk it. It is designed as the arc's single structural exception, never repeated, so the loss means something precisely because it is rare.
Der Irrweg is the third Turning in MORANA's mapped saga, designed but ahead of the live game. It is not a product you can buy today and it has no cards yet; it is part of the queued world-map, announced when real and never promised to a date. The world you can play now is the first, the Slavic set, free in your browser.
